Sofia wanted to create this Association to provide help and support to people affected by her disease.
Sofia strongly wanted to involve her sister llaria and her mother Patrizia, who are now President and Vice President of the Association respectively, and Mariangela Guido, a family friend who, with professionalism and love, managed to build the Association in under 15 days, moving heaven and earth. The tragedy experienced by Sofia’s family led mamma Patrizia to realize that Sofia had been a gift not only to her own family, but a GIFT to EVERYONE.
Sofia taught everyone a life lesson by setting an extraordinary example of altruism and courage. Sofia’s project was born in Genoa, it is now also in Milan, but has no borders: it must go around the world and with everyone’s help and support, it will.
This was Sofia’s dream: to reach and help as many patients as possible and ensure that they can be welcomed and adequately cared for, during their disease.

Birth of the Foundation
On February 22, 2023, Sofia entrusted us with her medical and scientific will, so that a strong boost would be given to research into diseases, even the rarest ones, in the field of oncology, which affect so many families. This is how her “little” association, SOFIA NEL CUORE, was born.
Afterwards, feeling the responsibility of carrying her Project forward and understanding the miracle her gesture represents, made in that way and at that TIME in her life, the three of us, Ilaria, Mariangela and I, committed ourselves wholeheartedly to making this Association grow. Today we cannot deny that we have achieved a small miracle, something incredible, which on July 22, 2024 (the 22nd again, purely by chance!) led us to the birth of the Sofia nel cuore ETS FOUNDATION, another step forward that will make Sofia proud of us and of our results.
It all took place in the presence of Notary Armando Salati, a family friend and great supporter of ours since the founding of Sofia nel cuore, and Dr. Cinzia Cirillo, another professional figure and auditor of Sofia nel cuore ETS, who has always supported us and guided us along our path.
Needless to say, without the affection and esteem of all of you, this would never have happened!
We are learning, and we are sure that now, with the involvement of Dr. Giuseppe Sacchitelli, Sofia’s dad (scientific director), and Engineer Andrea Zafferani, a dear family friend (financial director), we will be able to grow and develop ever bigger Projects, guided by our unforgettable Sofia, our constant inspiration!
